WILL YOU (Magi) BE THE PERSON ACTUALLY PHOTOGRAPHING MY WEDDING?
Yes, most definitely. If I am unavailable on your wedding date, you can choose to book one of our incredible associate photographers! On your wedding day, I’ll have a second photographer accompany me, but unless otherwise noted, it’ll always be me rocking up to your front door on your big day.
DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH SAME-SEX WEDDINGS?
I do and have shot a handful already. All love is equal!
HOW DO WE LOCK YOU IN FOR OUR BIG DAY?
A non-refundable retainer of $1,500 will keep your date.
There will also be a contract that will need to be signed, and the remainder of the fee will be due anytime up to 8 weeks before your wedding.
DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?
Yes. I’m happy to provide a copy to any vendor who requests it.
HOW MANY PHOTOS DO YOU GIVE US?
Roughly around 75 photos per hour of coverage. We don’t withhold any photos! In our opinion, the more the better. But we don’t want to overwhelm you, so we remove any lesser-than duplicates, photos where eyes are shut, in-between movements, etc.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET SICK ON OUR WEDDING DAY????!!!!
A common question we receive is what happens if you get sick?! Luckily, I’ve never been sick or ill enough to worry about this sort of thing, and I truly can’t imagine not pushing through being sick… but god forbid and knock on wood that there comes a day, we are sooo confident in our associate team and local network of fellow photographers that we could call for back up just in case.
CAN WE MEET YOU FOR A CHAT?
You are most welcome to come for a visit if you’d like to. You can meet me either before you book me or closer to your wedding day to run through anything you’re feeling uncertain about. My studio is Ocean City, NJ and I love getting together at coffee shops because… well, let’s be honest, I live off of coffee. Email me to work out a time and for directions!
HOW WILL WE GET OUR IMAGES?
As soon as the photos are ready, they will be uploaded to your online gallery and delivered to you via email. I aim to have them back to you around 6-8 weeks time. Then, usually within two more weeks, you’ll receive a USB with all your images high resolution.
WE ARE REALLY AWKWARD/ CAMERA SHY – HOW DO WE SHAKE IT?!
Most of us feel that way and so many couples of mine say this! Truth this, when you are with your favorite person, the nervous feeling will go away. My goal is to make you feel comfortable and tap into who you are together, so we can get those genuine shots! As long as you trust me and let loose, you won’t get caught up in the ‘where do I put my hands, am I doing it right?’ kinda feeling. It will be awesome!
Hopefully after the first 10 minutes you won’t even notice my camera anymore. Most of the day I’ll just be documenting slyly without putting you into any awkward poses. During the portraits of the two of you, I’ll give you a little bit of direction so you don’t feel lost, but my main aim is for you to be relaxed and your natural selves!
DO WE FEED YOU?
If I’m with you for 5 or more hours, if possible, yes please. Running around with camera gear is hungry work and I’ll show my appreciation with renewed photo-taking energy. It’d also help to mention to your caterers that I ought to eat at the same time as you (if it’s sit down) or allow me to graze and nibble along with everyone else. That way I don’t miss the beginning of speeches, dances or anything else I’d have loved to have captured and nobody likes having their photo taken with a mouth full of food anyway. (Ps. I’m vegetarian!)
HOW LONG SHOULD WE LEAVE FOR BRIDAL PARTY AND COUPLES PORTRAITS?
That depends on a few things, but I’d usually say anywhere from at least 45 mins to 1 hour 30 mins is great, and always plenty of time. I find it best to keep things simple and natural by staying nearby and relevant to your wedding day.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR PORTRAITS?
I will make sure we get the most out of what we’re dealt with on the day, but there are a few things you may want to consider if photography is a very important aspect for you. If you are getting married outdoors around lunch time on a bright sunny day, there may be harsh shadows and very contrasty colours (usually around 10:30am-3pm). Looking for full coverage shade is always an option in these types of situations, especially as you and your guests may be left making a squinty face or sweating in the midday sun. Soft colours and light occur more naturally in the evening. I do also have a special place in my heart for the hour before sunset. If you can wing it to spend some alone time with your partner then, even just for 10 minutes to catch a breather from the party, it’s usually worth it. And don’t worry about bad weather. A grey sky will be a beautifully moody backdrop. We can always grab umbrellas to fend off the few drops of rain.
I’M GETTING MARRIED IN A DIFFERENT STATE/COUNTRY. WOULD YOU STILL PLEASE COME AND SHOOT MY WEDDING?
You had me at hello. Discovering a new place is always alluring to me. I’d usually say that I’d need my flights and accommodation covered but depending on when and where your plans take you, we may both be in luck and come to a better agreement. Please get in touch.
And if you’re getting married in any of the following places and can pay for me to get there and a couple of nights accommodation, I’ll shoot your wedding or elopement at half the price (time permitting of course) — Mexico, Japan, North Korea, Mongolia, Cuba, Iceland, Greenland, etc.!
DO YOU OFFER WEDDING ALBUMS?
Most definitely. I also highly recommend you keep your photos beautifully printed and not just as pixels on a screen. You can have a look at a little preview and more info here .
HOW DO WE GET THE MOST OUT OF YOU?
I do my best work when you let me document as things naturally unfold rather than giving me a list of shots you think might be good to have. As my style is more photojournalistic, all I need list wise will be important addresses and phone numbers for the day and your family portraits constellations. Don’t worry, I’ll see all the little details you’ve put your heart and soul into too, but more than that, without my nose stuck to a piece of paper, trying to tick things off, I’ll have the chance to capture all the realness and special unrehearsed moments that will be unique to your wedding that may have much more soul to them.
DO YOU SUPPLY RAW FILES?
I don’t, sorry. I find the editing process just as important as the shooting and both combined are the end result I’ll be proud to pass on to you. I take my time working through each individual image and would feel like a baker selling dough without having actually baked the cake if I simply handed over RAW files. The editing is part of my style that you can see here on my website. You will however receive high res JPG files that you can print from as well as share.
DO WE OWN THE RIGHTS TO OUR DIGITAL IMAGES?
Clients are given the rights to all the personal usages of their digital images. This means you can print, share, email, etc. to all of your heart’s desire! What you can’t do is use them for more commercial purposes, such as selling them for a billboard or a t-shirt, or any other form of official publishing. I like to know where my images are and approve them, so if you’d like to send to a blog or wedding magazine, just give me a heads up and we will together!
I STILL HAVEN’T FOUND MY OTHER VENDORS FOR MY WEDDING. CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY GREAT PEOPLE TO HELP PULL MY DAY TOGETHER?
I’ve worked with some of the best. Feel free to ask me for any recommendations!
WHEN SHOULD WE SCHEDULE OUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION, PAY OUR BALANCE, AND WHEN DO WE RECEIVE OUR PHOTOS ?
All of the “whens” are answered here in a detailed timeline of our process from start to finish!
