New Jersey Engagement Session Photography by Magdalena Studios EmilyBrian 0068

An Adventurous Summertime Engagement

We are obsessed with how these adventurous and romantic photos turned out! Emily & Brian got creative and incorporated their biggest loves into their session. Their vision was to have fun, be themselves and include their favorite things- the water & the farm. Emily is horseback rider (she rides almost every day!), Brian surfs, and they LOVE their dog Lucy. It was so cool seeing all of these elements in their session! They are getting married at the Ashford Estate, one of our favorite New jersey wedding venues, next year and are trying to include a mix of both elements in their wedding day as well.

From Emily’s perspective:

“We spoke with Magi about where to have our shoot, we wanted it to be local and at a place that was special to us, where we both grew up. At first, we decided on just the beach, but after going back and forth with Magi, she convinced us to try for both the farm with my horse and the beach! We are so happy we got to do both- it meant so much to us. What made the engagement session the BEST, was that the beach we wanted to go to ended up being closed, so we drove down the street to the riverside and Magi spotted an amazing spot for us to start shooting before sunset! We just started taking photos in an unexpected spot….and everything turned out better than expected…we even took a dip in the water! The entire shoot ended up being absolutely beautiful, fun, and unique to us!”

We loved meeting and getting to know this sweet couple. The two met freshman year in high school & have been together since! We’re obsessed with their engagement story. You need to hear this (from Emily’s perspective):

“Brian surprises me every year with an adventurous date for our anniversary. Last year (2020) I woke up to a letter that was sending me on a scavenger hunt. I was sent to my grandparents’ house, greeted by my grandma and grandpa with a clue but they had no idea what was going on. Then I was sent to Brian’s parents’ house, who did know Brian’s plan and gave me my third clue. Then I was sent to my dad’s business where I was greeted by my mom and dad, who also knew what was going on, and directed me to my next clue hidden in my late grandfather’s tow truck, which we would like to display at our wedding.

Next, my cousin’s house with her little kids, my godchildren, and best little friends, who did not know Brian’s big plan, and finally I was sent to the farm where I ride horses. I was sent to go in the backfield where I was greeted by my two horses, one of them who has since passed away, and Brian who was standing under a tree. I was SO nervous and Brian told me he hasn’t seen me that nervous since our first date in high school. I walked up to him, he told me he had a surprise to take me on a world war 2 biplane ride (which I assumed was the big anniversary date), but first, he told me he needed to ask me something…

He began by telling me about how I still give him butterflies, as I told him the night before about how he still gives me them, and then all I remember was him telling me how much he loves me and getting down on one knee. Of course, I said yes and my barn “family” who were secretly watching from afar, began cheering for us. After I said yes we had a photoshoot with my two horses, met with my family to surprise them (for those who did not know what was happening that day), and we went on our biplane ride! Brian did an amazing job making me feel so special and loved by including all of the people and places that mean so much to me. It was such a special and emotional day that I will never forget.”

How special is that?! Emily & Brian, it was so great working with you and we can’t wait for your wedding next year!
