When the word love is part of the official nickname of a city, you know it’s a good spot for weddings and engagement photos. In Philadelphia, photo locations that offer stunning backdrops are at every turn. A Philly bride and groom have their pick of historic buildings, iconic architecture, and gorgeous landscapes that will provide a unique sense-of-place as well as highlight your special connection.
Keep in mind, some locations in the city require permits in advance of the photoshoot. That’s why it’s more important than ever to plan your backdrop in advance.
Work with your wedding photographer to make sure they’ve got in-depth knowledge about the different sites for romantic portraits in and around Philadelphia. Here are some places we highly recommend for couples:
Address: 210 West Rittenhouse Square
Why this special setting? With trees lining the walkways, ornamental lampposts, and a reflection pool, Rittenhouse Square offers an old-fashioned charm during any season.
Address: 1400 John F. Kennedy Boulevard
Why this special setting? Dating back to 1871, City Hall is a classic building that’s an exciting place for an engagement shoot … especially if you plan to skip in for a marriage license afterward.
Address: 210 W Washington Square
Special setting: This little green space is tucked across Walnut Street from Independence Hall and features shady benches, a landmark fountain, and quiet corners for cuddling.
Address: 124-126 Elfreth’s Alley
Why this special setting? This small, whimsical alleyway is the nation’s oldest residential street, so it’s an ideal setting to begin sharing your lives together.
Address: North Christopher Columbus Boulevard
Why this special setting? Jutting out over the Delaware River, Race Street Pier offers spectacular backdrops of the Ben Franklin Bridge and the city skyline.
Address: 143 South 3rd Street
Why this special setting? This National Historic Landmark boasts a Greek Revival architecture that’s as grand as the love we’ll capture on camera.
Address: 120 South 24th Street
Why this special setting? This stately setting dates back to 1863, with an interesting Palazzo façade to underscore the value of your love.
Address: 420 Chestnut Street
Why this special setting? With grand pillars perfect for leaning and loving, the Second National Bank is an iconic place for photos.
Address: 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway
Why this special setting? Wander along the pillars and stairs of the majestic and historic Philadelphia Museum of Art or laugh by its fountain for memorable, unique shots.
Address: 1 Boathouse Row
Why this special setting? For a natural, nautical feel, schedule your shoot along the banks of the Schuylkill River near the sweet boathouses that line its banks.
Address: 640 Waterworks Drive
Why this special setting? Located just behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Fairmont Water Works has pretty plant-strewn walls and swimming ducks to complement any couples photoshoot.
Address: 1001 Longwood Road in Kennett Square
Why this special setting? Just 45 minutes outside the city, the 1,077-acre Longwood Gardens has breathtaking displays throughout the year. It’s especially lovely during the holidays and late springtime.
